How do you get your inspiration for the outfits you wear ?
I couldn’t say my inspiration is from one area or person in particular. I’m a massive fan of all types of music and have a wide variety of friends all with their own style and this is where I get ideas on what to try. I might see a top on a friend and then think of how it could work into MY look. I also think that because I listen to such a random mix of music I’m presented with images of inspiration from diverse acts like rihanna and gwen stefani, to The veronicas and Florence etc who have their own styles. Really I’m one of those people who notices what someone’s wearing before anything else so I’m always inspired ..even if I’m just walking around my local supermarket!

Who has had the biggest fashion influence on your outfits ?
ooh now that’s a tricky question. I couldn’t pin point one person in particular. Though I will say both Gossip Girl and 90210 give me loads of ideas. Both on screen and the stars personal style.

What made you start posting your pictures on chictopia,Lookbook etc ?
I started posting on such sites after I’d started up my Blog. I got used to taking snaps of myself and posting them without feeling like a totally self obsessed person! When I came across these sites I liked the idea of sharing your looks/ ideas on how to wear certain pieces and thought ‘hey I want to be part of that’.

What blogs and websites do you follow and why ?
I’m a hoarder when it comes to online sites. My bookmarks tab is filled with soo many subsections all related to fashion/beauty. Working within styling and also styling and editing for a online magazine means I need to be aware of what’s going on in every area of the industry as best I can. If I had to pick a few to point out I’d say Style.com for everything to do with high end fashion, Lookbook.nu for inspiration on outfits, Fashionhedonism blog : my style icon! Asos and the Outnet for all the latest fashions.

Would you describe yourself as a trendsetter or fashion follower ?
Erm I’d probably be somewhere in the middle. I wouldn’t ever claim to be ‘trendsetter’ but I know a few people do look at what I’m wearing and it give sthem the idea to try something new..just from Followers of my blogs/vlogs. Also I’m not a follower of fashion in the sense that I won’t wear something just because it’s ‘’IN’’, obviously when there’s a particular trend branded around aeverywhere I lik eto try it out but always bear in mind my bodyshape. Sometimes I even come into ‘trends’ a season too late but if I like it then it’s staying my wardrobe!

‪How would you describe your style ?
One big Mess!? Sometimes I like to be girly & glam other times a bit more edgy. If you looked through my clothes/accessories you’d think it belonged to a mass of random people..which is something I like as it means I can adapt to any ‘trend’ without too much fuss. Though I did just have ‘Boheminim Glam’ thrown at me..

Does the hosiery you wear dictate the clothes, outfit you wear ?
Sometimes

‪What is in your hosiery drawer or closet ?
My tights are in random bags ..still trying to work out the best way to store them so if anyone has any ideas Tweet/FB me please! I’ve got everything from sheer to opaque, ribbed, wool, varying suspender versions, Lace. I’m yet to delve into the world of colours though.

‪How do you choose your hosiery ?
If I like it I buy it. Simple. Tend to walk in for a top and end up with 3 pairs of tights I never knew I wanted!

Where do you shop for hoseiry ?
Either Primark or M&S.; But for more fashion led styles I usually hunt around R.I, Topshop and Asos.

What was the last item of hosiery you brought, how much you spent etc ?
The last pennies spent were on a pack of chocolate tights from Marks and Spencers. They’ve turned out to be a great alternative to the standard black sheer tights that have been addiction in recent times.

Do you prefer sheer or opaque tights, stockings or holdups, socks or kneehighs. ?
I prefer sheer for nights out as they look quite nice with my new staple of shorts. But during the day I prefer opaques, they’re soo much warmer! Especially the 100 den ones from primark!

‪Do you ever wear 10 denier tights or sheer hose if so how long do they last you ?
10 and below den’s feature highly in my closet. But usually last me one or 2 wears. I’m not as careful as you should be in such tights.

How does wearing tights make you feel emotionally ?
Not really thought about it, but then thy make me happy on a nightout stuck waiting for a cab due to the warm factor and scraed in relation the suspender style…they always rip when you’re hoisting them up! You just know you’ll have thrown £15 down the drain if you wear them out…

Do you physically like the feel of tights and touch ? Do your legs ache less, prefer than pants ? not thought about it ?
Not really thought about it to be honest.

‪When do you wear hosiery,daily-once a week  ?
Recently it’s most of the week

‪What is your hosiery staple ?
It was my 120 deniers from primark until recently now it’s my 10 deniers ..Love the almost sheer look they provide.

What are your style tips for wearing tights ?
Just be confident. Not everyone’s going to like your choice but as long as you know it looks right for you you can’t go wrong. Fashion for me is really subjective. Personally when it comes to prints/colours I keep the rest of the outfit minimal letting the tights hold the focus.

‪How do you put on tights?
Carefully..unless I’ve had a glass of wine then I whiz through without a care in the world!

‪Do you keep a spare pair of tights in your bag ?
No, but I might just do that from now on.Thanks for the tip!

The best and worst things about hosiery, Love-hate ?
Best: can totally change the finished look of an outfit.
Worst: Rip too easily.

‪Strangest place you have ever worn or put on tights ?
A primary school classroom….i was 6 at time though so suppose that’s nothing too crazy!

Sheer tights reprise

I should really have seen it coming but I didn’t – or at least, I didn’t heed the warning. I was so busy investing in 70 denier opaques in every colour under the sun, that I didn’t really notice black 15 denier tights making a break for the limelight. I know we saw a lot of sheer patterned tights last autumn winter that were decorated with hearts and polkadots but plain sheer black tights? They’ve been off the fashion radar for so long that I can’t even remember how I used to wear them. All I know is that I wore them in the very early 90’s before I discovered floral skirts and DM boots, but since discovering black opaques I’ve not looked back, not even for a moment.
I remember seeing a post on Style Bubble, one of my favourite blogs, where Susie bubble recommended wearing multicoloured sheer tights over opaque tights in a contrasting colour and thought I would give it a go. Tried. Tested. Approved. Admittedly the difference in the photos isn’t too stark but it looks much better in real life. The look is ever so slightly holographic as the friction between the two layers makes the sheer tights look darker in some areas than others. Try it and you’ll see what I mean. Wearing sheers this way gives your trusted opaques an added dimension and eases you into the 15 denier thing slowly if you’re finding it hard (like me) to break your opaque habit.

DIY ripped tights by the thefashionkiwi

I've seen a lot of hype on the blogsphere about ripped tights. But it's all about buying a pair! Don't do it!

I made a really easy DIY pair a few months ago, and while the whole project ran me under $3, they are still holding up after a few wears. So instead of shelling out $11 bucks for a pair from Forever21 or Topshop, grab some scissors.

Here's how:

Don't cut a straight line in your tights. Instead pinch a bit of fabric where you want your rip to be, and just cut a tiny snip on that pinch. When you let go, there will be a much bigger rip than you expected.

Good luck....and don't worry about messing up. The drugstore carries black tights for about $2.50 each.

How to wear coloured tights by stylepill

In lieu of my last post, which featured two girls in cheerful colors—one in bright pink tights—I received an email from a reader wondering how to pull off such vibrant leg wear, without resembling a clown…

Dear SP,

I love color, and I loved the picture of the two girls in your last post wearing such daring and bright colors. The pink tights are fantastic! It actually inspired me to purchase a pair of autumn-inspired rust-colored tights in hope I would be able to incorporate some pops of color into my mostly gray and black winter wardrobe. However, once I got them home I realized I had no clue how to wear them! I tried them on under a black skirt, which just didn’t look right. Then, I slipped them on under a jean skirt…much cuter, but then the dilemma of what shoes to wear arose. Help! I really want to get some wear out of these fun tights and would love your help on how to do so!

Thanks!

AL

Dear AL~

Colored tights are tricky, especially when it comes to hues that are a little less obvious in their boldness, such as rust, dark cranberry or dark turquoise but are not at as straightforward as black or gray. So, my advice would be this:

Pair these tights with more neutral colors such as denim, like the skirt you mentioned, or my favorite option, gray skirts and dresses. By opting for a neutral color as your main article of clothing, it allows you to show off more of your brightly-colored legs without overwhelming the whole outfit.
For shoes, I would opt for brown, camel or tan boots. Depending on the look you are going for, try a Frye-type boot for more casual look, and high-heeled boots for dressier occasions. If you are not into boots or heels, jump on the “flats” bandwagon and slip on these cuties from Urban Outfitters to create a low-key look.

If you decide you want to be a bit more daring and edgy, try donning bold fuchsia or purple tights to amp up a plain black dress. Complete the look with knee high black boots, round-toe black pumps or flats. Give these ideas a try and let me know how it goes! Good luck and remember, have fun! SPxx

How do you get your inspiration for the outfits you wear ?
I get my inspiration mainly from all everyday girls around the world via Chictopia and fashion blogs I follow.  And of course, I tend to style-watch on the go whenever I'm in the city and see fashionable girls walking around.  It's inspirational and I take what I see into account when I dress and make my outfits :).

Who has had the biggest fashon influence on your outfits ?
I would definitely have to say, not being cliche or anything, but it would be my mom.  She seriously is a real fashionista and I look to her for my fashion inspirations as well.  Her closet is filled with amazing finds - from velvet pants, knit cardigans, shoulder pad blazers, and silk blouses.  I love how she's so fashion forward.

What made you start posting your pictures on chictopia ?
I found Chictopia randomly while looking through fashion websites for inspiration.  I came upon this website which showed real everyday girls, not celebrities, who can have such a powerful influence in the world of fashion.  After a while of admiring everyone's outfits from afar, it made me want to join in and start sharing my style and fashion with others.

What blogs and websites do you follow and why ?
My daily reads right now are Song of Style, Late Afternoon, Fancy Treehouse, and Lust for Life.  I love how their styles are a mix of what I love, classy, romantic, and edgy.

Photobucket

Would you describe yourself as a trendsetter or fashion follower ?
Hmm, I don't know, I really feel like I'm a mixture of both.  I definitely wear what I feel comfortableand confident in.  And if a person wears something I feel would suit me, then I would definitely become a fashion follower.  But, in the end, I will wear an outfit I ultimately feel good in.

Photobucket

How would you describe your style ?
My style is definitely everchanging and kind of eclectic.  But I would definitely say I tend to mix edgy and girly together.  Comfort is a big thing in my wardrobe.  My style can be romantic at times as well -- I really like to play with that kind of style where instead of using the usual pinks and reds for romantic, I'd go for browns, grays, and whites instead.

Does the hosiery you wear dictate the clothes, outfit you wear ?
Sometimes it does, it depends if the hosiery has a pattern on it, then of course I will try to wear pieces that flatter the certain type of hosiery I'm wearing.

Photobucket
Photobucket

What is in your hosiery drawer or closet ? It would be nice if you could take a photo and list the tights you own.
I currently have only the colors of gray and black for tights.  I have a crazy patterned fish-net tight.  I also have hearts tights from F21, heart suspender scallop tights from ASOS, sheer tights from Target, and black opaque tights.

How do you choose your hosiery ?
I choose it based off the clothings items I own in my current wardrobe.  I try to think of outfits I can wear with them, mostly I look to what kind of skirts I can pair with them.

Where do you shop for hoseiry ?
I shop for hosiery as mentioned above:  F21, ASOS, and Target.

Photobucket
Photobucket

What was the last item of hosiery you bought, how much you spent etc ?
I bought my black sheer tights from Target and it was only $4.

Do you prefer sheer or opaque tights, stockings or holdups, socks or kneehighs, sheer toe or reinforced ?
I really loove sheer tights, where I can layer them with knee high socks, my faav trend.  But I def would have to say I really am loving different kinds of socks, particularly knit knee-highs and thigh-highs, they're perfect for keeping warm in the winter.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Do you ever wear 10 denier tights or sheer hose if so how long do they last you ?
Ooh for sheer hosiery, I get so frustrated with them because I have to be extra careful whenever I sit down.  And one time I pulled the up too fast or too far and they ripped! It really bothers me when I have to end up buying so many more pairs.  Although they're cheap, when you add it up, it comes out to be a lot spent.

How does wearing tights make you feel emotionally ? More feminine, better with girly outfits not thought about it ?
It makes me feel less conscientious about how my legs look, and gives me an instant tan when I don't have time to tan - I have really light legs :( haha.  But it definitely can make me feel girly when I wear them with skirts, but also edgy when I wear them with jean shorts.

Do you physically like the feel of tights and touch ?  Do your legs ache less, prefer than pants ? not thought about it ?
I really love how tights feel - I think I really do wear them more than pants.  I'm very tactile when it comes to clothing/fabrics.

When do you wear hosiery,daily-once a week etc ?
I think I tend to wear them at least twice a week especially when I wear shorts or skirts.  I will wear them most in the fall/winter time because they keep me warmer than wearing pants, oddly enough.

Photobucket

What is your hosiery staple ?
It would definitely have to be the jet black sheer tights.  It shows off your skin without being too showy.  And you can layer it with knit socks or any kind of socks.

What are your style tips for wearing tights ?
I would say if you're just starting out, wear them with skirts.  If you're feeling uncomfortable at first, wear them with a knee-high pencil skirt.  Then move to shorter skater-esque skirts.  If you're daring after, wear them with jean shorts :).

Photobucket
Photobucket

How do you put on tights?
I scrunch them up all the way to the toe part, then I roll them up (carefully) and tightly so there are no bunching throughout.

If you was told you could never wear tights again, how would you feel ?
Hmm, I wouldn't mind, they do add another level of chic to the outfits, but I would probably get over it and wear thigh high socks in place of them.

Do you remember the first time you wore tights and the first pair you bought ?
I would have to say it was when I had my first ever ballet class.  I was five years old and had to wear pink tights with my black leotard and ballet slippers lol.

Photobucket
Photobucket

Do you keep a spare pair of tights in your bag ?
Hmm, that is actually a really good idea!  No sadly I don't, I'm thinking now I should in case they run or break on the go.

Photobucket

The best and worst things about hosiery, Love-hate ?
Hate how sheer tights easily run/break when I pull them up to fast or sit on something that will snag them.  Love how they keep me warm when the weather is cold :).

Photobucket
Photobucket

Do you recycle your tights ?
No I don't, I throw them away :(.  But I don't know, I think that would be sort of unsanitary if I gave them away to someone else?
